Located in Montclair, this project took advantage of a unique development opportunity on a double-sized lot. By securing a subdivision approval, we were able to design a two-story rear addition for the existing home while creating a brand-new two-story single-family dwelling on the newly established lot. This not only met modern living standards but also introduced a contemporary colonial addition to Montclair’s streetscape.

The rear addition for the existing house added 16 feet to its depth, transforming the living spaces on both floors. The expansion allowed for additional bedrooms and bathrooms, as well as a one-car garage equipped with an EV charging station. The first floor was reconfigured into a completely open-concept layout, featuring a spacious kitchen with a walk-in pantry, an airy living and dining area, and ample natural light throughout. In the basement, a large laundry room was added, complete with a custom raised dog washing station for added convenience.

The redesigned second floor provided a luxurious primary suite located at the rear of the home for enhanced privacy. This suite included a walk-in closet, a bathroom with both a shower and tub, and dual vanities. The addition also enabled an overall transformation of the house from a 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom layout to a spacious 5-bedroom, 4.5-bathroom home.

Our goal with this project was to create high-quality living spaces that maximize comfort, functionality, and storage while maintaining a cohesive design with the surrounding streetscape.
